Got books you loved but are ready to pass on? Our Book Exchange gives them another life — and gives you Scribe & Sign store credit towards your next read, including special editions.

Send us a few photographs and a list of titles and authors. Tamsin personally reviews every submission. Offers depend on condition, resale demand and what we already have in stock, so we cannot guarantee an offer for every bundle. If we can welcome your books, we’ll email one total store-credit offer.

What we're looking for

• Genres: romance, dark romance, romantasy, fantasy, thrillers, horror and contemporary fiction.
• Publication: generally 2015 onwards, with desirable older titles considered individually.
• Bundle size: at least 10 ordinary paperbacks. Smaller bundles containing valuable special editions or desirable signed books may be considered individually.
• Condition: clean, complete books with secure binding and tidy covers and pages. Light reading wear is welcome.

Special editions and signatures are assessed individually. We may decline books we already have enough copies of. Every offer reflects resale value and the costs involved; there is no fixed minimum credit offer.

A little condition guide

Welcome: clean books with secure binding, no missing pages and only light wear to edges or corners. Please show any wear clearly — it helps us make an accurate offer.

We also can't accept: soiled books, excessive staining, water marks, swollen or rippled pages from water damage, mould, broken bindings, loose or missing pages, or seriously damaged spines.

Another chapter for your books 💛

Your shelves might be ready for a fresh chapter, but your books still have stories to share. Pass them on to another reader, keep good books in circulation and help keep usable books out of landfill. It’s a simple way to clear some shelf space more sustainably — and make room for your next read 💛

We aim to offer better value than bulk buyback services such as World of Books. You might achieve more by selling each book yourself on Vinted, but that comes with listings, messages, buyers and separate parcels. This is not a guaranteed price comparison: offers vary by book, condition, demand and current stock.

With Scribe & Sign, you get one bundle offer, prepaid postage for approved books, and store credit towards your next read. We handle finding their next readers. Credit is issued after the books arrive, pass inspection and the final amount is agreed.

How it works

1. Show us your books. Upload up to 10 photographs and list the titles and authors. Group shots with readable spines and covers are perfect, with close-ups of signatures, special features and any damage. No ISBNs needed.
2. We'll make you an offer. We'll email the exact books we'd like and one total Shopify store-credit amount. You can accept or decline by replying.
3. Post only the approved books. Once you accept, we'll arrange prepaid InPost postage and send the label or QR code and instructions. Please confirm the packed parcel's size and weight before we book it.
4. We'll check them when they arrive. We compare the books with your photographs and descriptions, then agree any changes with you.
5. Your credit is issued. Once inspection is complete and everything is agreed, Tamsin manually adds the agreed credit to your Shopify customer account. It is not issued when you accept the offer.

Please don't send books until you've accepted an offer and received our postage instructions.

Pop a note in the box 💛

Before sealing your box, put a piece of paper inside with your full name, the email address you used on the form, and your Book Exchange reference. Handwritten is absolutely fine! For more than one box, put a note in each and mark them “Box 1 of 2”, etc.

Use a sturdy box, protect the books from moisture and cushion them so they can't move around. Keep your InPost drop-off confirmation. Each box needs its own postage code or label.

Send us your books for consideration

Choose up to 10 JPG, JPEG or PNG photographs. Selected filenames appear below the upload button. Remove any unwanted file with its × button and add another before submitting. Please check every filename is listed.

Please use your Shopify customer-account email if you have one. We will confirm the account for your credit after inspection.

Book Exchange terms — the details

Offers and acceptance

Submitting photographs does not guarantee an offer. We select books manually based on desirability, condition, stock and commercial value. An offer identifies the approved books and total credit. Reply to accept or decline within 14 days, unless the email specifies another period; after that, ask us to reconfirm before posting. Postage is arranged only after acceptance.

Inspection and revised offers

Offers depend on the books matching the submitted photographs and descriptions. If a book arrives materially different, we will send photographs and explain the discrepancy. No credit is issued for a book that fails inspection because its condition was misrepresented. If some books pass, we may offer revised credit for those books, but we will obtain your agreement before issuing it.

Rejected books

You can arrange and pay for rejected books to be returned, or expressly agree that Scribe & Sign may retain them without credit. We do not automatically take ownership, donate or dispose of rejected books. Please reply within 14 days of our inspection email; we will send a reminder after 7 days. If we cannot resolve matters, we will continue seeking instructions and use any applicable lawful notice process. Missing a response deadline does not transfer ownership.

Transit damage and missing parcels

Damage caused in transit is considered separately from an inaccurate description. Tell us promptly about a missing parcel or delivery problem and retain the drop-off proof. We will review the evidence and contact the carrier where appropriate. A carrier claim does not automatically settle your credit offer; any revised outcome will be discussed with you. We do not issue credit before receipt and inspection.

Credit and ownership

The exchange is for Shopify store credit, not cash. Pending amounts recorded in our tracker cannot be spent. The final amount is manually issued to the agreed customer account only after inspection and agreement. Ownership of accepted books passes to Scribe & Sign when the agreed credit is issued, so we can resell them. Rejected books remain yours unless you expressly agree otherwise. You must own the books or have the owner's authority to exchange them.

Your information

We use your name, email, photographs and exchange details to assess and administer your submission, arrange postage and resolve enquiries. Please avoid faces, addresses or other personal details in book photographs. Once you accept, we request the contact/address details needed for postage and share necessary parcel information with InPost. Shopify and Hulk process account and form data to operate the service. This information is used to respond to your request and administer the exchange, not to enrol you in marketing. See our privacy policy. We normally remove declined or withdrawn submission details and photographs from active records within 30 days of closing the enquiry. Completed-exchange photographs are normally removed within 90 days of completion, unless a dispute or carrier claim remains open. We keep the minimum offer, acceptance and credit records needed for accounting, legal obligations and resolving claims, reviewed separately from photographs. Removal includes our submission records and notification-email copies; provider backups and technical retention follow the providers’ policies.
