★★★★★

"I absolutely devoured this book. The world building is brilliant, complex but described clearly enough to be understandable, without just info dumping. The characters have wonderful depth and their chapters are well paced that I'm invested in what they're doing and anxious to get back to them to see what happens next...

I'm a big dystopian book fan and this felt so fresh and exciting, I genuinely can't wait for the rest of the series. I'm also looking forward to rereading this before book 2 and delve back into the universe." - ARC Reader (Goodreads)

★★★★★

“In this bold debut, JL Hudson has created characters that will stick with you long after you have turned the final page. You’ll ride right up front with them through the varied, vivid, rich landscapes. This is more than a novel – this is a whole world, and I can’t wait to spend more time there.” - Beta Reader

"Intense world building... The characters are great...
That ending though… I thought I had more pages to read! But it ended! I want to know what happens now" - ARC Reader (Goodreads)

Beneath the iron sky, a storm is coming.

Ollie’s mother has died. A victim of bombings which shook the country. Beneath the leaden Imperian sky, cold rain drips from his face as he stands at her funeral, and the only thing to break through his oblivion is his uncle’s voice. An offer. A chance to change things for the better, to overthrow the oppressive regime which has the country living in fear.

Yet, the road to freedom is paved in blood, and Ollie doesn’t know what nightmares lie before him.

The people are restless, their despotic leader hungers for further expansion and control, and whispers of rebellion are growing louder. The question remains: can revolution save them from all-out war?

Excerpts from State of Unrest

"Today, barely a breath out of summer, the streets were so eerily quiet, that one could hear the spirits whisper. His footsteps felt conspicuous, echoing like a trespass in this land he once called home."

"Her beauty was the sweet nectar of a carnivorous plant, luring unwitting insects to meet their fate. Few survived underestimating her."

"A bangle, which promised to liberate her and show her all the world had to offer, became a manacle."
